Join us for a day of sailing with the INSS.
We will either sailing in their fleet of Sportsyachts or alternatively the Squibs both are easy to sail, Dalkey Island, Howth, Clontarf and Bray are well within our reach! And the beauty of either boat is you will get to have some handson experience with guidance from a fantastic skipper.
So what's the plan for the day of craic in Dun Laoghaire...
10am...
Arrive at the Clubhouse. The event coordinator will give a briefing about our setup, the boats, the facilities, and introduce the instructional staff (skipper).
10.10am...
We'll be organised into groups of five and handed over to a skipper. The skipper then will sort us out with gear: waterproof jacket, chest high trousers and lifejacket.
10.15am...
We make our way to the boats. Skipper runs over the various parts of the boats. We'll help the skipper in rigging the boat, plenty of teamwork necessary to get the sails up on the mast! And then we're off!
The skipper will helm (steer) the boat away from the mooring and head towards Dun Laoghaire's outer harbour. We'll get a chance to control the main sail and jib (front sail) while the skipper talks us through why and how to do things / make changes to sails etc whilst afloat. Skipper will helm for 10 / 15 minutes, talking through how to turn, where to sit, how to move around the boat whilst afloat etc.
When we're up to speed with how to move around the dinghy we'll head to our destination which will depend on the tides etc.
1pm
We'll be back in Dun Laoghaire for a burger and chips at the clubhouse. Let us know if you have special dietary requirements.
